The SSI and Largs Sailing Club supported Fairlie Yacht Club at the Icebreaker Regatta sailed out of Clyde Marina, Ardrossan over the weekend of the 13-14 April. The SSI provided mark laying and race management services along with much of the hardware required to run the event, including marks and RIBs.
The Regatta serves as a warm-up event for the Clyde's yacht fleet and is also used thttp://youtu.be/F7gCmFWL-uYo provide some coaching which the full-on short,sharp racing format compliments perfectly. Eleven yachts made it to the start line on Saturday, with many calling off because of the unfavourable forecast which predicted gales for Staurday evening. The weather held off long enough for five races to take place in a building South Easterly breeze which starterd at five knots and increased throughout the day to around 15 knots. The competitors worked hard on Saturday which certainly blew the cobwebs away and tested the post-winter set up on the boats.
