Water Aid Regatta
14 Boats and around 70 people representing the Water Industry's Civil Engineering companies converged on Largs for the inaugural WaterAid Regatta to raise money for this worthy charity.
Saturday's racing took place in fresh winds allowing the boats to race round the Cumbrae Islands. The yachts completed a figure of eight course round both Islands with the dinghies taking in a circuit of Great Cumbrae only.
After three hours of heavy weather sailing and close racing the yachts were won by "The Water of Life" followed by "Jack Tar" and "Kodiak" in third place. The dinghy fleet was won by a Hurricane 5.9SX who completed two laps of great Cumbrae in a little over 2 hours.
Sunday dawned with light winds and after a lenghthly postponement the second race started, the race officer got it just right as the breeze filled in shortly after the start to give ideal sailing conditions.
"The Water of Life" continued the good work from the previous day to win again and take the regatta, in second place was "Jack Tar" and "Hurricane" took third. In the dinghies the Laser 2 sailed by Jude Baird and Fred Fuller took first place and the series. Click the link below for full results.
