Kapital Foundation Regatta 2008
The Kapital Foundation returned to Largs for its annual charity fundraising regatta to be greeted with glorious sunshine and good winds. The Scottish Sailing Institute provided the race management for the event that was raced in twelve of Sunsail’s matched fleet of Sunfast 37 yachts.
After a quick introduction and breakfast at Largs Sailing Club racing began at 1100 with a short race round the buoys in the Largs Channel. Last years winners, representing Bell & Scott, took the first race with a commanding lead followed by Turcan Connell, with Kapital Aviation in third place.
The second race started after lunch and Bell & Scott romped away to stretch out a huge lead over the rest of the fleet. As the race progressed Kapital Aviation and Turcan Connell slowly ground away Bell & Scott’s lead until on the last leg of the course these three boats were approaching the finish close together. Only metres from the finish, the wind conspired to spoil Bell & Scott’s day and becalmed them allowing both Kapital Aviation and Turcan Connell to overhaul them with only 10 metres to go to the finish. Kapital Avaiation won the race with Turcan Connell second and the unlucky Bell & Scott in third place.
This meant there was a three way tie for the event honours and after the tie break procedure was invoked Kapital Aviation came out on top, with Bell & Scott second and Turcan Connell third.
