Combined Judge, Umpire and Race Management Confere
Scottish combined Judging, Umpiring and Race Management Conference 2008
Royal Tay Yacht Club, 16th February 2008
21 assorted Judges, Umpires and Race Officers made the journey to Royal Tay Yacht Club for the combined Judging, Umpiring and Race Management Conference, with some making a journey of over 120 miles to attend. 13 different Clubs were represented along with other notable organizations such as RYA Scotland’s Racing Committee.
Brian Anderson (Race Management Group) was first up presenting the Race Management Group’s Achievements in 2007 and its Goals and Initiatives for the coming season, which was well received by the delegates and generated some informative dialogue. After a short break David Kent (Regional Race Management Coordinator) took over and covered Setting the Tone, RYA Round up, and the Appeals Cases and Q&A. The Appeals Cases, as always, created an abundance of opinion and lively discussion to end the Race Management section of the Conference.
Delegates broke for lunch and took the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and the superb views over the river Tay that can be obtained from the clubhouse.
Terence Brownrigg (Regional Rules Advisor) stepped up next to present an overview of the Rules Advisors course, the documentation and resources available to all race officials (particularly through the RYA Website), and ended the conference with a preview of the emerging RYA Basic Rules Course, which all agreed would be a very useful training tool.
Thanks to Royal Tay Yacht Club for their hospitality hosting a very informative and enjoyable day of discussion and debate.
